Funds allocated for village roads used to buy SUV for AFAD

While public austerity measures were being announced, the Elazığ Municipality used a portion of the funds allocated for village roads to purchase a 4x4 vehicle for AFAD. While CHP, AKP, and Yeniden Refah Party members voted 'in favor' of the proposal, MHP voted against it.

Funds allocated for village roads used to buy SUV for AFAD

Members of the Elazığ Provincial General Assembly voted by majority to approve the use of 2 million 300 thousand liras from the 4 million 854 thousand 958 lira fund allocated for the construction of village roads to purchase a 4x4 SUV for AFAD, despite objections from their People's Alliance partner, the MHP.

During the May municipal assembly meeting, a request was discussed to transfer funds from the 2023 budget, originally allocated to the Provincial Special Administration for the repair of damaged village roads, to purchase a 4x4 SUV for AFAD. It was decided that 2 million TL, which should have been spent on the construction of village roads, would be used for the purchase of a vehicle for AFAD.

CHP AND AKP VOTED 'IN FAVOR'

Osman Dilek, the MHP Elazığ Provincial Administrator responsible for Financial Affairs, who reacted to the transfer of funds allocated for the repair of damaged village roads to purchase a vehicle for AFAD, stated the following:

This money is AFAD's own money. Why is it allocated? Nearly 4.5 million is set aside to be used in cases where problems arise during road construction in emergency situations. During the years I served as a member of the Provincial General Assembly, a similar request had come in. They asked for authorization from the Assembly to transfer funds to purchase an official vehicle. We objected and rejected it at that time. Of course, our term ended, and after we left, it came back to the agenda in May. They want to buy a vehicle. We told our friends as well. Only the MHP said no. It passed with the votes of the Republican People's Party, the Yeniden Refah Party, and the AK Party. I attribute this to the fact that the provincial general assembly members of the Yeniden Refah Party and the CHP did not receive full, detailed information, because if they had possessed detailed information, they would have said no to this. You know, our villagers continue to face difficulties. If AFAD has this money, they should meet the villagers' container needs. They demolished people's homes in the middle of winter, but their container and tent needs were not met. When there are such essential needs, if you transfer this money to allocate vehicles to newly arrived directors and people in the institution, we consider this an anomaly.
