Funeral mix-up in Aydın discovered at the cemetery
After the bodies of two women were mixed up in the Didim district, one body was exhumed following burial, returned to its family, and an investigation into the incident was launched.
A funeral mix-up in the Didim district of Aydın has left both the hospital and the families involved in a difficult situation. In the incident at Didim State Hospital, German citizen Derahaea Mana Heffmann and Fikriye Tuna both passed away from heart attacks at different times on December 31. Following the deaths of the two women, their bodies were taken to the hospital morgue.
First, Heffmann's family arrived at the hospital and took custody of their relative's body. Following the necessary official procedures, the body was buried at the Didim Asri Cemetery. However, things became complicated after the body was released.
Some time later, Fikriye Tuna's children also applied to the morgue to collect their mother's body. Realizing that the body shown to them by staff did not belong to their mother, the family members immediately notified the authorities. As a result of the assessment and checks, it was discovered that the bodies had been mixed up.
Once the error was identified, the Didim Chief Public Prosecutor's Office intervened and ordered the grave to be opened. The grave was opened shortly thereafter, and the correct body was removed and delivered to Fikriye Tuna's family. It was learned that a comprehensive investigation and inquiry have been launched by the Aydın Provincial Health Directorate to determine the cause of the mix-up. The incident caused brief shock and sorrow in the district.
