Galip Ensarioğlu's 'Salim Güran' commentary: 'He may have killed Narin because she saw something she shouldn't have'

AKP Diyarbakır MP Galip Ensarioğlu, who drew backlash for his remarks regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found in her village while she was being searched for as a missing person in Diyarbakır, said, "Narin may have been killed by her uncle because she saw something she 'should not have seen'."

Ensarioğlu answered questions from Onur Erkan of Serbestiyet.

'MY WORDS WERE DISTORTED'

When asked, "Your words, 'There are things we sometimes don't know, and sometimes things we know but shouldn't say. The family are also our friends,' caused reactions in the public that you were protecting people from Narin Güran's family who are suspects in the investigation. What did you mean to say?" Ensarioğlu gave the following response:

My words were distorted by those who want to drag this painful event, in which our daughter Narin was brutally murdered, into political debates. The investigation is being conducted very seriously. The findings from our daughter Narin's autopsy, once the detailed examinations at the Forensic Medicine Institute are completed, will also help untie the knot. The investigation will reach a conclusion; whoever committed this atrocity and whoever was complicit will be revealed and will receive the punishment they deserve. The state is pursuing this matter more than it has ever pursued any issue to date. The public is also more sensitive and aware than it has ever been on any issue.

'DETENTIONS DO NOT MEAN THE WHOLE FAMILY IS GUILTY'

While the investigation is proceeding well, comments by those who have no knowledge of the subject, misinformation being spread, and especially the interpretations of those trying to drag a painful event in which we lost our daughter into political debates are creating information pollution.

I emphasized these incorrect interpretations and the fact that the investigation is being conducted under the principle of confidentiality. I have been following the issue since the first day, I know the region well, and as I said, I have friends in the family. I was purely emphasizing the confidentiality of the investigation.

They also distorted my words 'we have friends in the family'; there were even those who wrote that I said 'those in the family should not be detained.' The fact that there are people from the family being detained does not mean that the entire family, including those not detained, is guilty. Furthermore, it certainly cannot be said that everyone detained is definitely guilty, of course. The investigation is still ongoing."

'HE MAY HAVE KILLED NARIN'

Answering the question, "Do you have an assessment based on the information that has emerged regarding Narin's murder and your knowledge of the region?" Ensarioğlu commented, "Salim Güran may have killed Narin because she saw something she shouldn't have seen."

Ensarioğlu spoke as follows:

"As is known, one of the suspects confessed that Narin's uncle, the village headman Salim Güran, handed Narin's lifeless body over to him and that he hid it in the stream. Salim Güran had already been arrested last week after findings such as the presence of Narin's DNA traces in his vehicle and the deletion of data on his phone.

The headscarf Narin was wearing when she left the Quran course was also found in the house where she lived with her family. This is also important information because there were assumptions that Narin might have been kidnapped before reaching home. However, the fact that the headscarf was found in the house shows that Narin reached the house.

Also, that day, the village youth had gone to neighboring villages to distribute invitations for a wedding that was to take place two days later.

These facts bring to mind the thought that Narin may have been killed by her uncle, Salim Güran, because she saw something she “should not have seen”. He is still denying these himself."

'THE FAMILY IS A FAMILY THAT LARGELY COMES FROM THE REFAH TRADITION'

When asked about his statement that they are family friends, Ensarioğlu used the following expressions:

"They have no connection with HÜDAPAR. Previously, during the time I was the provincial chairman of the True Path Party (DYP), we had a friend from the Güran family in our provincial administration. Narin's late grandfather was also my friend. The family is a family that largely comes from the Refah tradition. There was someone from that family who served as a provincial administrator in the IYI Party for a period. They have a nephew who is currently in the AK Party Bağlar district administration. Those in the family say they are the grandchildren of Molla Gürani. The surname Güran also comes from there."
