A new era in traffic has begun! How much is the fine for running a red light?

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that penalties for red light violations will be increased as part of an action plan aimed at reducing motorcycle accidents. The red light fine, which was previously 2,167 TL, will be increased gradually under the new regulation, and severe sanctions will be applied to drivers if violations are repeated.

HOW MUCH WILL THE RED LIGHT VIOLATION FINE BE?

In his speech at the MOTOBIKE Istanbul 2025 Fair, Minister Yerlikaya announced the fine amounts for running a red light as follows:

First violation → 5,000 TL fine

Second violation → 10,000 TL fine

Third violation → 15,000 TL fine + 30-day license suspension

Fourth violation → 20,000 TL fine + 60-day license suspension

Fifth violation → 30,000 TL fine + 90-day license suspension

Sixth violation → 80,000 TL fine + License revocation + Mandatory eye examination

LICENSE WILL BE PERMANENTLY REVOKED UPON 6 VIOLATIONS

According to the new regulation, the licenses of drivers who commit 6 red light violations within one year will be permanently revoked. Minister Yerlikaya stated that drivers whose licenses are revoked must obtain a new license from scratch.
