As of 2025, traffic violation fines in Turkey have reached record levels. Ranging from speeding and mobile phone use to license plate forgery and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, these monetary penalties and license revocations aim to improve traffic safety. Fines can reach up to 280 thousand TL.

As of 2025, fines for drivers who violate traffic rules in Turkey have been significantly increased. New penalties have been announced for many violations, ranging from speeding to not wearing a seatbelt, and from mobile phone use to illegal racing.

Fines for drivers who exceed the speed limit have been increased incrementally:

10-30% over the limit: 2,168 TL

30-50% over the limit: 4,512 TL

More than 50% over the limit: 9,267 TL

Drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 66 km/h in residential areas will be fined 30,000 TL.

MOBILE PHONE USE

Fines to be applied to drivers who talk on a mobile phone while driving:

First violation: 5,000 TL

Second violation: 10,000 TL

Third and subsequent violations: 20,000 TL and a 30-day license suspension

This regulation was introduced to ensure that drivers keep their attention on the road.

NOT WEARING A SEATBELT

The fine for drivers who do not wear a seatbelt has been increased from 993 TL to 2,500 TL. If the same violation is repeated four times within a year, the driver's license will be suspended for 30 days.

ILLEGAL RACING AND SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Those who organize unauthorized races will be fined 16,000 TL, and those who participate in them will be fined 46,000 TL. The licenses of those who race will also be revoked for two years. Additionally, those who share traffic violations on social media in a way that encourages them will be fined 25,000 TL.

RUNNING A RED LIGHT

The fine for running a red light has also been increased:

First violation: 5,000 TL

Sixth violation: 80,000 TL and license cancellation

As violations increase, the duration for which the license is revoked also extends.

DRIVING WITHOUT PLATES AND USING FAKE PLATES

The fine for driving a vehicle without plates has been increased from 15,712 TL to 46,000 TL. If this violation is repeated within a year, the fine will be 140,000 TL. A fine of 140,000 TL will be applied to those who tamper with plates, and 280,000 TL to those who commit the same act for the second time within a year. Those who use plates belonging to another vehicle or fake plates will similarly face fines ranging from 140,000 TL to 280,000 TL.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

The fine for drivers who operate a vehicle under the influence of drugs or stimulants has been increased from 47,842 TL to 150,000 TL. Those who drive under the influence of alcohol will pay a fine of 25,000 TL for the first violation, 50,000 TL for the second, and 150,000 TL for the third. For drivers who refuse to undergo testing, a fine of 150,000 TL and a 5-year license suspension are stipulated.

AGGRESSIVE DRIVING AND TAILGATING

Those who tailgate with the intent to attack will be given an administrative fine of 180,000 TL. Furthermore, these drivers' licenses will be suspended for 60 days, and they will be required to undergo a psychotechnical evaluation.
