Ahmet Hakan targets Hadise: 'It has never been this cheap'

Five lieutenants who recited the officer's oath and chanted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" after the graduation ceremony of the National Defense University Military Academy on August 30, 2024, were dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on the grounds of 'indiscipline'.

Singer Hadise reacted to the dismissal of the lieutenants. Sharing on her X account, Hadise noted the following:

"It is sad and thought-provoking to live in a country where those who proudly mention the name of Mustafa Kemal are punished. Protecting Atatürk and his legacy is not a crime. We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal!"

Hadise's post drew a reaction from Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, who is close to the government. Targeting Hadise in his column today, Hakan described the famous singer as "an artist of artificial and insincere outbursts."

Recalling the "Zero Tolerance" song Hadise dedicated to Narin Güran, Hakan wrote, "For instance, she had sent the song 'Get ready, you are leaving / Caught in the act, repentances / Heavy blows to the heart' to Narin, who fell victim to a domestic murder. Trying to earn the title of a 'sensitive artist' through uninternalized political and social outbursts has never been this cheap."

The relevant part of Hakan's article is as follows:

"'Aha! A wind has picked up. Why am I not surfing?' Hadise jumped in immediately. She tried to surf on the agenda of 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal.'

In her post, she said: 'It is sad and thought-provoking to live in a country where those who proudly mention the name of Mustafa Kemal are punished.'

I wonder if she will say 'One can no longer live in this country' and migrate to Belgium?

'But Ms. Hadise, 90 percent of this country proudly mentions the name of Mustafa Kemal. I wonder why they are not being punished,' if one were to ask such a question... While many Kemalists could put forward a thousand different arguments, it is impossible for Hadise to even come close to any argument."
