Akın Gürlek's statement on the IMM file: He responded to Devlet Bahçeli!

Meeting with courthouse reporters for the new judicial year, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek made striking statements regarding the controversial IMM corruption investigation.

"THE BIGGEST CORRUPTION FILE OF THE CENTURY"

According to the report by Ceylan Sever from Habertürk, Gürlek said, "The indictment in the IMM corruption file has begun to be written. Six months have passed since the first operation. This period is considered short for an indictment. No one took a judicial vacation. In our files, there is no one detained solely based on witness testimony. If there is such a person, tell us, and we will release them the very next day. We are working with the precision of a jeweler's scale."

RESPONSE TO THE LIVE BROADCAST DEBATE

When reminded of CHP leader Özgür Özel's call for the hearings to be broadcast live on TRT and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's support for this proposal, Gürlek said, "There is no such article in the law. It could only happen if there is a regulation. We are confident in our file; our evidence is in the file, whether it is live or closed to the press," he stated.

"NO COERCION FOR EFFECTIVE REMORSE"

Denying allegations that there is pressure for effective remorse, Gürlek said, "We do not release everyone who wants to benefit from effective remorse. No one is being pressured. On the contrary, some lawyers are pressuring their clients not to speak. We have also arrested lawyers who do so. For example, the family of Ertan Yıldız, who became a confessor, was threatened, and we had to provide protection."

RESPONSE TO THE "OPERATION WAS LEAKED" ALLEGATION

Evaluating the claims that the IMM operation was leaked in advance, Gürlek said, "The first person to learn about the operation was Murat Kapki. He transferred 8 of his assets in one day and tried to smuggle his assets. We took immediate action and placed a lien on his assets," he said.

Chief Prosecutor Gürlek announced that red notices have been issued for Murat Gülibrahimoğlu and Emrah Bağdatlı, who are mentioned in the file.

"CITY CONSENSUS FILE WILL NOT BE AFFECTED"

Responding to the question, "Will the IMM City Consensus file or the peace process affect the file?" Gürlek said, "The indictment is in the drafting stage. That process is different, of course; we also want it to reach a resolution. But what needs to be done legally is clear. Whatever the law says will be applied."

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had previously stated in a statement that the indictments in the IMM investigation should be written as soon as possible. Feti Yıldız, MHP Deputy Chairman and one of the names close to Bahçeli, had emphasized that trial without detention is one of the principles of law and repeated the same point in his judicial year message.
