AKP figure lets the cat out of the bag, gives a date for elections: Here is Erdoğan's plan!
AKP Deputy Chairman in charge of Election Affairs Ali İhsan Yavuz stated that Parliament could take a decision regarding President Erdoğan's re-candidacy and provided a date for the elections.
AKP Deputy Chairman and Head of Election Affairs Ali İhsan Yavuz answered questions from journalists at the Turkish Press Federation.
Addressing the debates regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's re-election, Yavuz said that Parliament could take a decisive step on this issue.
Yavuz stated, "We hope, expect, and want Parliament to make a decision that will contribute to the formation of a scenario regarding our President's re-election. But it does not have to hold that election in 2027. It could be held a week earlier. It could be a week, two weeks, or a month."
"I THINK THE ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD IN 2028"
Responding to a question about the date of the presidential elections, Yavuz said, "I think the elections will be held in 2028. I am stating my opinion clearly; there is no decision made yet."
"THERE IS NO DISAGREEMENT BETWEEN THE AK PARTY AND THE MHP"
Responding to journalists' questions regarding allegations of a "crisis" between President Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, Yavuz emphasized that the dialogue between the two leaders is strong.
Yavuz said, "Neither the AK Party nor the MHP looks at the issue from the perspective of their own party's interests. Both leaders focus on the issues of the nation and the country. For this reason, no disagreement arises between them. The alliance continues in a way that is in Turkey's interest."
When reminded that Bahçeli did not attend the October 29 Republic Day ceremony, Yavuz said, "I look at the main understanding, not the image there."
Responding to the question of whether there will be a new meeting between Erdoğan and Bahçeli, Yavuz said, "I am of the opinion that there is always a meeting. They meet very frequently and there is constant communication."
DID NOT RESPOND TO THE ÖCALAN QUESTION
When asked what the AKP's stance would be regarding the commission to be established in Parliament concerning the Imralı process related to PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan, Yavuz avoided commenting on the matter.
Yavuz said, "I have never been part of a discussion regarding how the AK Party will vote. This has never been discussed where I am present."
"A TERROR-FREE TURKEY IS AN ISSUE BEYOND THE PKK"
In his assessment regarding the fight against terrorism, Yavuz stated, "The issue of a terror-free Turkey is currently one of our country's most important issues. This issue is not limited to the withdrawal of the PKK; it is a comprehensive matter involving its internal and external connections."
