Attention to those with monthly consumption above that amount! Claim of 140 percent hike in electricity bills

As of February 1, 2025, a new tariff has been implemented for electricity bills. Accordingly, residential subscribers with a monthly electricity bill of 1,049 TL and above have faced a hike of around 100 percent.

With the new support model, those with high consumption will no longer be able to benefit from state support. This regulation will affect 1 million 200 thousand subscribers.

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated that after a while, a 140 percent hike will also be applied to bills of 495 lira and above.

Speaking to Sözcü, Yavuzyılmaz emphasized that with a decision taken by the government, millions of residential subscribers have been placed under the definition of free consumers. Yavuzyılmaz stated the following:

“It has removed residential subscribers whose monthly bill is 1,049 TL and above from the fixed price tariff. It has included them in the variable price tariff where the Market Clearing Price (PTF) is valid. Thus, it has left subscribers at the mercy of private electricity generation companies. In the coming months, residential subscribers with a monthly electricity consumption of over 495 TL will also be included in the variable price tariff, and there will be a 140 percent hike in electricity bills. This is a blow to the citizen, it is crushing them under inflation."

Yavuzyılmaz stated that for industrial, commercial, and public subscribers, those exceeding the limit set at 1250 kilowatt-hours will face gradual hikes.

It was stated that the new system will also affect electricity bills consumed in common areas of housing complexes and multi-apartment buildings. It was emphasized that since bills will swell, it could also cause apartment dues to increase.
