Barış Boyun's prison-based criminal organization management exposed: He gave instructions via coded notes
It has been revealed that crime syndicate leader Barış Boyun, who is currently imprisoned in Italy, was managing his organization from behind bars through his brother-in-law. The instructions he sent via coded notes and the cryptographic techniques used were brought to light through the surveillance of the Italian police. Here are the details...
Striking details have emerged regarding how criminal organization leader Barış Boyun, who is imprisoned in Italy, managed his organization from behind bars. It was determined that Boyun secretly sent messages to organization members through his brother-in-law, Efe Kantik, and that these messages were written using encrypted and cryptographic techniques.
According to a report by Ümit Erkan Demircan from Sabah, it was discovered that Efe Kantik, who entered Italy in 2023, carried messages he received from Boyun to the outside during prison visits.
The methods used by Barış Boyun are noteworthy. A method identical to the "pizzini" notes—small pieces of paper used by Sicilian mafia boss Bernardo Provenzano in the 2000s—was identified.
Allegedly, Boyun did not stop at Provenzano's method; he also actively used the Vigenère cipher developed by Italian cryptologist Giovan Battista Bellaso and the Playfair cipher by British inventor Charles Wheatstone in his messages.
"I AM NOT WALKING AROUND IDLY HERE" MESSAGE
It was determined that Barış Boyun used the following expression in one of the decrypted messages:
"You don't know how far ahead I am here; I am not walking around idly here, I am working from here too."
It was assessed that with these words, Boyun implied that despite being in prison, he continued his organizational activities and did not lose control.
BROTHER-IN-LAW CAUGHT AT A RESTAURANT
How the encrypted messages passed from Boyun to Efe Kantik was captured moment by moment. Acting on the footage, Italian police detained Kantik while he was eating at a restaurant in Rome.
It was revealed that Kantik delivered the messages he received to the organization's current leaders, Gurur Işınçelik and Mert Gültepe.
WANTED IN TURKEY AS WELL
Efe Kantik, who also has arrest warrants for various crimes in Turkey, was arrested by the court he was brought before in Italy and sent to prison.
Authorities stated that the complete decryption of this connection Barış Boyun established from prison to the outside has provided significant information regarding the internal structure of the organization and that the investigation has been expanded.
