Behind the scenes of the İmralı visit: Here are the details of the 3-hour meeting with Öcalan

It has been reported that a delegation consisting of one member of parliament each from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party traveled to Imralı Island on November 24 to meet with terrorist Abdullah Öcalan.

According to the information obtained, the delegation included Hatay MP Hüseyin Yayman from the AKP, Istanbul MP Feti Yıldız from the MHP, and Kars MP Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit from the DEM Party.

Journalist İsmail Saymaz stated during a broadcast on Halk TV that while the delegation's transit from Ankara to Istanbul was known, the method by which they reached the island was not disclosed.

According to information provided by the Parliament, the meeting lasted 3 hours. Saymaz stated that the meeting was recorded both in audio and video by the relevant state authorities, but it is unknown whether these records will be shared with the public. It was stated that the minutes are expected to be submitted to the parliamentary commission.

It was reported that the delegation members posed many questions to Öcalan regarding topics currently being debated in the public eye. According to information obtained by Saymaz, the meeting focused primarily on two main points:

– Whether the PKK will lay down its arms,

– Whether the PYD-SDF, the organization's Syrian structure, will integrate with the central government and whether there will be a demand for an autonomous structure.

In this context, it was stated that Öcalan may have also been requested to make a separate statement regarding the PYD-SDF.

FOCUS ON THE SYRIA CONNECTION

Saymaz recalled that in past processes, Öcalan made statements while anticipating the reactions of the organization's base, and noted that the situation in Syria was evaluated during the meeting as holding a critical place in the organization's existence. He stated that Öcalan is aware of the organization's reflexes during various periods, and that his call during the 2019 elections was also mentioned in this framework.

ROADMAP OF THE PROCESS TO BE PRESENTED TO THE COMMISSION

According to the information obtained, the contents of the meeting and the minutes are expected to be presented to the Parliament in the coming days. It has not yet been announced whether a new schedule will be determined following the evaluation of the records prepared regarding the process.
