A chain of negligence in Bolu Kartalkaya! Lack of fire escapes and fire department resources
The fire that broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Kartalkaya Ski Center in Bolu turned into a disaster due to a chain of negligence. The absence of fire escapes in the wooden hotel and the lack of fire department resources in the region increased the loss of life.
The fire that broke out around 03:00 in the morning at the Grand Kartal Hotel, located in Bolu's famous winter tourism region of Kartalkaya, caused a tragedy.
The rapid ignition of the wooden structure and the lack of a fire escape prevented the guests inside from escaping.
Some hotel residents trying to escape the flames attempted to climb down from the windows by tying bedsheets together, while the delayed intervention of fire crews increased the scale of the disaster.
CHAIN OF NEGLIGENCE TRIGGERED THE DISASTER
The details that emerged after the fire revealed the negligence that invited the tragedy. The fact that the wooden hotel did not have a fire escape prevented guests from escaping the flames.
Furthermore, due to the absence of a fire station in Kartalkaya, the teams' intervention in the fire took place after a 40-minute journey from Bolu. During this time, the flames completely engulfed the hotel.
DESPERATION REFLECTED ON CAMERA
The moments when hotel guests trapped in their rooms during the fire tried to climb down from the windows by tying bedsheets together revealed the scale of the tragedy.
However, many people lost their lives before they could even attempt this.
The fire, in which 10 people lost their lives, brought to the agenda the lack of precautions taken against the possibility of a fire in a region with high winter tourism density like Kartalkaya.
