CHP and AKP neck and neck in latest poll! Here is the citizens' presidential preference
AREA Research conducted a comprehensive public opinion survey in August. In the poll, where participants were asked questions regarding general elections, presidential candidates, and the new opening process called 'Terror-Free Turkey,' it was observed that the CHP and AKP are neck and neck.
Striking results emerged from the survey conducted by AREA Research between August 22-24, 2025, with a total of 2,000 people across 26 provinces (Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Balıkesir, Izmir, Aydın, Manisa, Bursa, Kocaeli, Ankara, Konya, Antalya, Adana, Hatay, Kayseri, Kırıkkale, Samsun, Zonguldak, Kastamonu, Trabzon, Erzurum, Ağrı, Malatya, Van, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Mardin) and 87 districts. Within the scope of the research, participants were asked questions regarding general elections, presidential candidates, and the new peace process called 'Terror-Free Turkey.'
The results shared by Nefes columnist Aytunç Erkin drew attention.
If an election were held today, the vote shares of the parties would be as follows:
CHP: 30.9 percent
AKP: 30 percent
DEM Party: 10 percent
MHP: 8.5 percent
İYİ Party: 7 percent
Zafer Party: 4.8 percent
A Party: 3.1 percent
YRP: 2 percent
TİP: 1.7 percent
TKP: 0.9 percent
Other: 1.3 percent
Aytunç Erkin, who assessed that "At this point, we see a 15 percent nationalist segment in the opposition, and these parties (İYİ Party, Zafer, and Anahtar) are taking a stance against the new peace process," also shared the results regarding the presidential elections:
The responses to the question, "How would you vote if the following names were candidates in the presidential election?" were as follows:
Mansur Yavaş 49.7 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 35.6 percent
Ekrem İmamoğlu 45.8 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 37.7 percent
Tayyip Erdoğan 40.1 percent, Özgür Özel 38.7 percent
The answer to the question, "How would you vote if the following names were candidates in the presidential election (as the opposition's joint candidate)?" was as follows:
Mansur Yavaş 58.3 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 41.7 percent
Ekrem İmamoğlu 54.9 percent, Tayyip Erdoğan 45.1 percent
Tayyip Erdoğan 50.9 percent, Özgür Özel 49.1 percent
The definition of "Türkiyeli" (person from Turkey) was also asked within the scope of the research. The rate of those who stated that the citizenship definition of the Republic of Turkey should be "Turkish citizen" was 79.6 percent, while the rate of those who stated it should be "Türkiyeli" was 18.2 percent. The rate of those who did not express an opinion was calculated as 2.2 percent.
Citizens were also asked what they thought about Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, one of the controversial figures of the recent period who joined the AKP from the CHP.
The rate of those who stated they found Özlem Çerçioğlu's resignation from the CHP and joining the AK Party correct was 31.2 percent, the rate of those who found it wrong was 60.8 percent, and the rate of those who did not express an opinion was 8 percent.
