Cübbeli targets Turks this time: 'They have sold their lives and property to hell'

While debates regarding the return of Syrians from Turkey remain on the agenda, statements made by Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü, known to the public as "Cübbeli Ahmet," have drawn significant backlash on social media.

In a video, Ünlü criticized Turkish society by claiming that Syrians are more present in mosques.

In his attention-grabbing speech, Ünlü used the expressions, "Turks don't need paradise. They have sold their lives and property to hell. I look at prayer and the congregation; Turks are not coming to the mosque. I went to a mosque in Fatih for noon prayer; it was full, but there were only three rows of Syrians."

''IF TURKS ARE COMING LESS...''

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ reacted harshly to Ünlü's statements. In a post on his social media account, Özdağ responded with the words, "May a stone as heavy as a Turk fall on your head. If Turks are going to the mosque less, the reason is that people like you alienate them."

While Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 52 thousand 622 Syrians have returned to their countries in the last month, according to official figures, there are approximately 5 million Syrians in Turkey.

However, opposition parties and some non-governmental organizations claim that the real figure is close to 10 million.
