Dialogue between Erdoğan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder revealed: 'Isn't one child too few?'

It has been learned that a notable moment occurred during the final meeting between the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and former HDP MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away last week, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

THEY MET IN BEŞTEPE IN APRIL

President Erdoğan held a meeting with the DEM Party's Imralı delegation in Beştepe on April 10. Sırrı Süreyya Önder, one of the experienced politicians of the time, was also part of this delegation. A private dialogue that took place between the two during the meeting has come to light following his death.

RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION "ISN'T ONE CHILD TOO FEW?"

According to information reported in the May 10 issue of the "Duvarların Dili Olsa" column in Nefes newspaper, President Erdoğan asked Sırrı Süreyya Önder during the meeting, "How many children do you have?" When Önder replied, "One," Erdoğan said, "Isn't that a bit too few?"

Sırrı Süreyya Önder responded to this question by referencing both his political life and the years he spent in prison, saying, "I didn't have the opportunity to have more children because of the time I spent in prison."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

President Erdoğan had received the DEM Party's Imralı delegation in Beştepe on Thursday, April 10. The meeting, which lasted one hour and 25 minutes, was represented by Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Van MP Pervin Buldan.

In a written statement issued by the DEM Party, it was stated that the meeting took place in an "extremely positive, constructive, productive, and hopeful atmosphere for the future."

The statement included the words, "It was expressed that a period without violence and conflict, where the democratic and political sphere is strengthened, is of vital importance for our country, our citizens, and our region."

DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, in his statement regarding the meeting, said, "It was a very positive meeting. We are much more hopeful for what comes next," while DEM Party Van MP Pervin Buldan stated, "It was a very, very productive meeting. The process is going well."

While the process was ongoing, Sırrı Süreyya Önder fell ill, was hospitalized, and passed away on May 3.
