Different justice for AKP members, different for CHP! Release for diabetes and COPD patient
The health risks of Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık remaining in prison despite having beaten cancer twice are on the agenda. Former AKP Keskin Mayor Dede Yıldırım, who was arrested for a similar crime, was released due to diabetes and COPD.
Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested during operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is reported to face health risks by remaining in prison despite having beaten cancer twice. Çalık's health condition raises concerns that prison living conditions could lead to a recurrence of his illness.
The Council of Forensic Medicine prepared an opinion stating that Çalık's remaining in prison does not pose an obstacle to his health.
Based on the examinations and tests conducted, the institution reported that no active signs of disease were detected and recommended a referral for further evaluation. However, Çalık's history of cancer and his health conditions in prison are being closely monitored by doctors and the public.
The health condition of former Keskin Mayor Dede Yıldırım, who is affiliated with the AKP and was arrested for a similar crime, has also drawn attention.
After being arrested for embezzlement on January 6, Yıldırım requested his release on health grounds. His lawyers requested his release, stating that Yıldırım suffers from diabetes and COPD. At the end of the judicial process, it was decided on February 14 that Yıldırım should be released.
This situation has sparked a debate regarding the consistency of judicial decisions.
