Earthquake divides experts! Üşümezsoy reacts to Şengör: 'He is not a professor'
The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri in Istanbul has sparked a debate among experts. Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy harshly criticized Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör, who claims that a 'major Istanbul earthquake is coming,' stating, 'Celal is not a professor.'
The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul has divided experts. While some say the big Istanbul earthquake is very close, others claim that the earthquake risk has been eliminated.
"THE MOST LOGICAL STEP IS TO LEAVE THE CITY"
Most recently, Prof. Dr. Şengör had warned about the "expected big Istanbul earthquake" and, stating that the measures taken for years were insufficient, said, "it is too late now."
In a statement made following the earthquakes on April 23, Celal Şengör had used the expression, "The most logical step now is to leave the city."
"CELAL IS NOT A PROFESSOR"
Participating in the Taksim Meydanı program broadcast on TGRT Haber, Üşümezsoy emphasized that 'the expected earthquake in the Sea of Marmara has occurred and there will no longer be a big earthquake,' and reacted harshly to those who claim that 'the big Istanbul earthquake is on its way.'
Underlining that the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Silivri was the last major tremor, Şener Üşümezsoy said, "From now on, the earthquakes have ceased. I know the Sea of Marmara like the back of my hand. The North Anatolian fault is a strike-slip system."
Üşümezsoy used the expressions, "Has Celal Şengör made a self-criticism of what he told the public? Celal is not a professor."
