Everyone called it a drug operation, but the truth turned out to be different: Derya Çayırgan detained in IMM case

In the early hours of the day, 18 suspects were detained as part of a drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It was reported that the names of some individuals involved in the operation were released to the public.

Among these names was volleyball player Derya Çayırgan.

According to information that emerged in the following hours, it was learned that Derya Çayırgan's detention was not related to the drug investigation.

According to the report by Ceylan Sever, it was stated that Çayırgan was detained as part of a different investigation conducted into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Derya Çayırgan's name had appeared in the statement given to the prosecutor's office a day earlier by social media influencer Rabia Karaca.

In her statement, Karaca had made allegations regarding Çayırgan and the imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The detention of Derya Çayırgan hours after Rabia Karaca's prosecutor's statement led to various assessments in the public eye.

Following this development, questions arose as to whether Ekrem İmamoğlu was also included in the scope of the investigation.
