Fire escapes at Rize State Hospital blocked with cable ducts! Backlash grows
At Rize State Hospital, the blocking of fire escapes with cable ducts has sparked backlash. While fire safety measures are being debated across the country following the fire disaster in Bolu Kartalkaya, the practice in Rize has heightened public safety concerns. Hospital management stated they used the cable ducts to block the fire escapes because patients' relatives were smoking there.
Following the fire in Bolu Kartalkaya that resulted in the deaths of 76 people, eyes across the country have turned to fire safety measures. Municipalities have launched strict inspections in areas providing public services, such as businesses, hotels, and student dormitories.
PATIENTS' RELATIVES WERE SMOKING!
At Rize State Hospital, where thousands of people enter daily and which is crowded with inpatients and their companions, hospital management has blocked the entrances to fire escapes by screwing cable ducts over them, alleging that patients' relatives were going out there to smoke.
"WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN A MOMENT OF PANIC?"
Stating that people would not think to break the cable ducts in a state of panic, a citizen named Veysel Baki Biçer said, “A fire just broke out in Bolu, and everyone is talking about emergency fire escapes. At Rize State Hospital, they have blocked the fire escape doors using cable ducts, which are used to secure electrical cables.
Okay, it might be something that can be easily broken, but will people think of that in a moment of panic? They might not be able to think of it at that moment,” he said.
