First poll on the new process: What do citizens think about the İmralı talks?

Hot developments continue to unfold regarding the new process, which began with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli shaking hands with DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) and continued with the DEM Party's meeting with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.

The DEM Party delegation, which included Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan—who visited Öcalan in İmralı—as well as former Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk, whose position was taken over by a government-appointed trustee, met with Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ in prison following their visits to political parties in the TBMM.

The KONDA Barometer 2024 Almanac, which covers the process closely followed by citizens, has been shared with the public. The study involved interviews with 36 thousand 774 people.

In November, the extent of social support for a possible new solution process regarding the Kurdish issue was investigated.

SUPPORT INCREASES WHEN 'ECONOMY' IS EMPHASIZED

According to reports by Sözcü, in an experimental study by Prof. Dr. Ayşe Betül Çelik from Sabancı University and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gürses from the University of Central Florida, the sample was divided into three groups, and it was determined that support for a possible solution process in different scenarios increased most when the “economic cost of the fight against terrorism” was highlighted.

SUPPORT FOR 'NEGOTIATION' TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM HAS DROPPED

In February 2022, the proportion of those who answered the question, "How can the Southeast/Kurdish issue best be solved?" by saying "By eliminating terrorism" rose from 35 percent to 40 percent in November 2024.

While the proportion of those who see the democratization of the country in general as a solution was 16 percent in November 2024, it was observed that this figure was 20 percent in February 2022.

The proportion of those supporting the path of negotiation for a solution was 14 percent in February 2022, but fell to 11 percent in November 2024.

INCREASE IN THE DENIAL OF THE 'KURDISH ISSUE'

In February 2022, the proportion of those who said, "There is no Kurdish issue in Turkey" rose to 23 percent in November 2024.
