He explained by saying 'There won't be an earthquake here for 100 years': Şener Üşümezsoy revealed the safest place in Turkey

Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, one of the most talked-about names has been Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy.

It has emerged that Üşümezsoy had also previously predicted the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Sunday in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir.

"THE DANGER IN SINDIRGI HAS DECREASED"

Making assessments after the earthquake, Üşümezsoy said, "The unbroken section was Sındırgı. The earthquake happened there, and that fault now appears to have lost its danger. This was the point I had been making from the beginning. I had presented this picture based on the earthquakes in Simav."

HE POINTED TO MANISA FOR A NEW DANGER

Answering the question "Is there a fault to be feared?", Üşümezsoy pointed to Manisa and stated, "There is a fault on the northern edge of Mount Sipil, but I cannot say whether it is dangerous or not."

HE REVEALED THE SAFEST CITY

Touching upon the debates regarding the expected major Istanbul earthquake, Üşümezsoy said, "I have said this perhaps a thousand times, I am tired now. There is no fault left to break in Istanbul." Üşümezsoy stated that Istanbul is the city in Turkey where one can sleep most comfortably without fear of earthquakes.

Making a clear time estimate for a possible major earthquake in Istanbul, Üşümezsoy assessed, "There are stories of piano-key ruptures, but because of this, it appears that the fault in Istanbul will not break for 100 years."
