Kurtuluş Oransal, who caused the deaths of 7 people in an explosion at a perfume and cosmetics factory in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli, has passed away due to a heart attack in prison.
Kurtuluş Oransal, the owner of the facility who was imprisoned in connection with the explosion and fire that occurred at a perfume and cosmetics factory in the Dilovası district of Kocaeli on November 9, resulting in the deaths of 7 people, has passed away in prison.
Oransal, who was being held at Kandıra F-Type Prison, suddenly fell ill and was transferred to Kocaeli City Hospital by ambulance. However, despite all interventions, Oransal could not be saved.
HE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK IN PRISON
The imprisoned Oransal suffered a heart attack at Kandıra F-Type Prison. Oransal's heart stopped for a while after he was taken to the hospital by medical teams. Resuscitated following initial interventions, Oransal was then taken for an angiography.
However, despite all efforts, he passed away. It was reported that Oransal had some pre-existing health problems and was receiving treatment in prison.
7 PEOPLE HAD LOST THEIR LIVES IN DİLOVASI
The incident occurred on the morning of November 9 at a perfume and cosmetics factory located in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood of Dilovası. 7 workers lost their lives in the fire that broke out as a result of the explosion.
Among those who lost their lives were Esma Dikan (65), Hanım Gülek (65), Şengül Yılmaz (55), Nisa Taşdemir (17), Tuğba Taşdemir (18), Cansu Esatoğlu (16), and Tuncay Yıldız, who had been taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The incident caused great sorrow across the country.
OWNER AND EMPLOYEES ARRESTED
Within the scope of the investigation launched after the explosion, 11 people were detained. Of these, 7 were arrested, while 4 were released under judicial control conditions.
Among those arrested were facility owner Kurtuluş Oransal, İsmail Altay Ali, Aleyna Oransal, and Gökberk Güngör. Additionally, Ali Osman Akat and Onay Yürüklü had been sent to prison on charges of "harboring a criminal."
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
In the administrative investigations launched following the explosion, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security suspended 7 personnel working at the Kocaeli Social Security Institution (SGK) and the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR). Furthermore, a Deputy Mayor, the Head of the Municipal Police, and three municipal police officers from the Dilovası Municipality were temporarily suspended from duty.
In the technical preliminary report, it was determined that the explosion occurred due to static electricity discharge or an electrical contact during the transfer of ethyl alcohol used in production to the boiler.
In the inspections carried out after the disaster, the lack of safety and oversight at the factory came to the fore. It was stated that measures responsible for the safety of employees were not sufficiently taken and that occupational safety procedures that should have been considered in the incident were neglected.
