With hours left until the start of the new year, the price hike rates to be applied as of 2025 have been announced.
The new regulations announced by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance have brought price increases to many products and services. The hikes, which affect every area of life from food to transportation, and from tax regulations to daily expenses, are causing concern among citizens.
MTV Rates Increased by 43.93%
The 43.93% hike in Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) rates closely concerns vehicle owners. The MTV for a vehicle that was 2,343 TL in 2024 will be 3,372 TL in 2025. For electric vehicles, this tax will be applied at a rate of one-fourth.
Increase in Rent and Taxes
The exemption amount applied to rental income has been increased from 33,000 TL to 47,000 TL, the value increase gain exemption from 87,000 TL to 120,000 TL, and the incidental earnings exemption from 200,000 TL to 280,000 TL.
Passport and Driver's License Fees Have Risen
Significant increases in passport and driver's license fees are coming into effect as of January 1st. The 1-year passport fee has risen to 3,449.40 TL, and the passport fee for a duration of more than 3 years has risen to 11,274 TL. The Class A driver's license fee has become 1,883.10 TL, and the Class B driver's license fee has become 5,678.60 TL.
New Limits on Meal and Travel Allowances
Exemptions for meal and travel allowances for employees have been increased. The daily meal allowance has been raised from 170 TL to 240 TL, and the travel allowance from 88 TL to 126 TL. The monthly tax-exempt meal allowance has been set at 6,240 TL, and the travel allowance at 3,276 TL.
SCT Hike on Fuel Prices
There has been an increase in the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on gasoline and diesel prices. The SCT amount on gasoline has been raised from 11.29 TL to 11.98 TL, and on diesel from 10.59 TL to 11.23 TL. A price hike of 83 kuruş on gasoline and 77 kuruş on diesel is expected.
Fee for Bringing Phones from Abroad Has Risen
The fee applied for mobile phones brought by passengers has been increased from 31,692 TL to 45,614.20 TL. This increase will significantly raise costs for those bringing phones from abroad.
Plastic Bag Price Doubled
Plastic bags, which became subject to a fee in 2019, have seen a 100% price hike as of 2025. The new price has been set at 50 kuruş.
Hike on Electricity Too
According to the new regulation by the EMRA (EPDK), electricity security deposit, disconnection-reconnection, and meter inspection fees have been increased. The security deposit for residential subscribers has been announced as 200 TL per kilowatt, while it is 270 TL for agricultural activities. For families of martyrs and veterans, this fee has been set at 100 TL.
