Prof. Dr. Naci Görür issued important warnings in a statement following the magnitude 4.0 earthquake that occurred in Bursa.
An earthquake occurred in the Nilüfer district of Bursa yesterday (January 27) at 13:47. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Earthquake Department reported that the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 9.74 kilometers.
The earthquake, which caused brief panic in Bursa, was also felt in Istanbul and surrounding provinces.
Following the earthquake, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement. In a post on his X account, Görür stated the following:
“There was a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Nilüfer/Bursa. It is within the right-lateral Uluabat Fault zone. This zone accumulates stress slowly. Its last major earthquake (greater than 7) occurred in 1855. It caused significant loss of life and property. We do not know when these faults will produce an earthquake. It needs to be examined in detail.”
