Initial statement of Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, revealed! 'I asked the CHP for a meal card, they didn't give it to me'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked as he was leaving the AKM following a ceremony held for DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that Selçuk Tengioğlu, who carried out the attack, had been taken into custody. It was revealed that Tengioğlu had previously killed his 2 children, received a life sentence, and was released in 2020 under judicial control conditions.

The Ministry of Interior made the following statement regarding Tengioğlu's criminal record:

"It has been determined that the 66-year-old individual named S.T., who physically attacked CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel;

Killed his children named B.T. and M.T. in 2004 and injured his two children.

He has records for theft and threatening crimes.

S.T., who received a life sentence, was released on parole in 2020.

The initial verbal statement given to the police by the attacker, Tengioğlu, has emerged.

DHA Deputy General Manager Tamer Oskay relayed the attacker Tengioğlu's statement during a live broadcast on CNN Türk.

"I ASKED THE CHP FOR A MEAL CARD, THEY DIDN'T GIVE IT TO ME"

Tengioğlu's statement is as follows:

“I had previously applied to the Republican People's Party for a meal card, but they didn't give me food because I was not a party member. Because of this, I had been angry for a long time. I was harboring the anger I had built up regarding the CHP calling young people to the streets. I left the apartment hotel where I was staying in Taksim and heard there was a program. When I went there, I actually had no intention of attacking, but as soon as I saw him, I couldn't control my temper."
