In the case regarding the Ezgi Apartment, which collapsed during the earthquake because its columns were cut, it has been determined that the fugitive defendants, who had been sought for 521 days, came to Kahramanmaraş to hold a meeting. It was revealed that the owners of the patisserie, who face up to 876 years in prison, attended a board of directors meeting at the company's headquarters.
The Ezgi Apartment, located in the Onikişubat district, collapsed during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes due to allegations that its columns had been cut, and 35 people lost their lives.
Among those held responsible for this tragedy, in which only two people survived from the rubble, were the building's contractor as well as the owners of the Kervan Pastanesi (Kervan Patisserie), which operated on the ground floor.
FUGITIVE DEFENDANTS APPEAR AT COMPANY HEADQUARTERS!
According to the expert report prepared by academics from Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ), the renovations carried out by the pastry shop owners played a major role in the building's collapse.
In this context, a lawsuit was filed against Kervan Pastanesi owners Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel for the crimes of "causing death and injury by probable intent."
A prison sentence of up to 876 years and 6 months was requested for the defendants.
However, it was revealed that Kervancıoğlu and Pekel, who have been fugitives for 521 days, came to Kahramanmaraş freely and held a board of directors meeting at the company headquarters.
It was determined that the meeting, which took place on December 17, 2024, was chaired by fugitive defendant Sami Kervancıoğlu, and that Mustafa Pekel also attended this meeting and signed documents.
