It became a grave for 78 people... Inspector's report on the major disaster in Bolu revealed: No action taken despite identified deficiencies!

Preliminary investigation reports prepared by the Ministry of Interior's chief civil inspector regarding the disaster that occurred on January 21, 2025, at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people, have been submitted to the Parliamentary Research Commission.

The report pointed out that despite security deficiencies at the hotel being identified beforehand, the necessary precautions were not taken.

DEFICIENCIES IDENTIFIED, BUT NO ACTION TAKEN

According to the report by Murat Gürgen from Nefes newspaper, the hotel management applied to the Bolu Municipality in December 2024 to renew its fire safety certificate.

However, during the inspection, fire department teams identified serious deficiencies. Following this development, the hotel management withdrew its existing application and reapplied for a new certificate of competence.

AUTHORITIES WERE NOT INFORMED

The report stated that despite the deficiencies identified regarding fire safety, Bolu Municipality officials did not take any action, and the Provincial Special Administration also failed to take the necessary steps regarding the workplace operating license. The failure to report these deficiencies to the competent authorities was evaluated as one of the most critical points in the chain of negligence.

In line with the report, which points to the responsibility of the Bolu Municipality and the Provincial Special Administration, an investigation is expected to be launched into the officials involved in the negligence. While the judicial process regarding the fire disaster continues, the relatives of the victims are demanding that justice be served.
