Japanese earthquake expert reveals 4 dangerous regions in Turkey! Where are the safest places?

Japanese earthquake expert Yoshinori Moriwaki interpreted Turkey's active fault map and announced both the provinces at risk of earthquakes and the safer cities in Turkey.

In his statements on the YouTube channel titled "Bak Burası Çok Önemli" (Look, This Part Is Very Important), Moriwaki drew attention to 4 regions in Turkey that carry earthquake risk.

The Japanese earthquake expert stated that the southwestern branch of the East Anatolian fault line, which includes provinces such as Kahramanmaraş, Elazığ, and Hatay, is quite active.

He emphasized that this line extends from Adana to Cyprus. Stating that "Earthquakes in Turkey can create a domino effect and sometimes move backward," Moriwaki also listed the Bingöl-Karlıova, Muş, and Bitlis regions among the risky areas.

Moriwaki underlined that the Aegean Region is also active.

While stating that Turkey is generally an earthquake country, he also noted that the risk level in some regions is lower than in others.

He listed provinces such as Kırklareli, Konya, Niğde, and Karaman as safer.

WHERE ARE THE SAFEST PLACES IN ISTANBUL?

The Japanese earthquake expert noted that in Istanbul, areas with solid ground, far from the sea, and at higher elevations—such as Ataşehir, Beşiktaş, Şişli, and İstinye—are relatively safer.

"I can say that 4 regions of Turkey are particularly dangerous from now on. First, Kahramanmaraş, Elazığ, and Hatay... I can call this the southwestern branch of the East Anatolian line. It goes from Adana to Cyprus. Earthquakes in Turkey move in a row like dominoes. Sometimes they move backward. The Bingöl-Karlıova, Muş, Bitlis region, and thirdly, the Aegean Region, including İzmir. İzmir's fault line is short and thin, but it can frequently create earthquakes in the region. Due to the shortness of the fault line, a major earthquake is not in question for İzmir.

We are expecting a major earthquake for Istanbul because there were major earthquakes in 1509 and 1766. That is, the interval is 257 years. For example, a major earthquake came in 257 years, it accumulated energy and exploded." Pointing out that the total of 1766 and 257 years reaches the year 2023, Moriwaki said, "We are not surprised because it has accumulated energy." The Japanese earthquake expert added, "Of course, this does not work like mathematics."

Speaking about the 500 active fault lines, Moriwaki said that earthquakes can sometimes occur even in regions without any fault lines. Every place is dangerous. An earthquake can happen anywhere. In general, it can be said that every part of Turkey is an earthquake zone. It can be said that the earthquake risk is slightly lower in 10 regions.

The place with the least earthquake risk is Kırklareli. It is also low in the Karaman area, towards Konya and Niğde.

On the Anatolian Side, around Ataşehir, and on the European Side, Beşiktaş, Şişli, and İstinye—these are solid ground. So, I can say that areas far from the sea and at higher elevations are safer."
