Halil Konakcı, who has drawn public ire for his statements against the Republic and secularism, was previously protested by a group in Erzurum, where he had gone to give a sermon, due to his remarks targeting the Committee of Union and Progress era.

WHAT HAD HALİL KONAKCI SAID?

Recently, Konakcı, who harshly criticized the Committee of Union and Progress era and stated regarding its founders that "All traitors emerged from within the Committee of Union and Progress," was confronted by a citizen at the Üsküdar Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, who shouted, "Someone who calls the martyr Talât Pasha a traitor cannot speak in any mosque in Turkey."

THE DIYANET HAD LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION

The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) had launched an administrative investigation into imam Halil Konakcı, whose videos posted on social media drew backlash following a complaint by Independent Sakarya MP Ümit Dikbayır. Dikbayır had announced that Diyanet Chief Inspector İbrahim Öztürk and Deputy Director Hüseyin Akdağ had met with him and taken his statement.

Konakcı also had an argument with a young person during a sermon he gave in Erzurum. Tense moments occurred in the hall where Konakcı was speaking.

Following these developments, Halil Konakcı made statements on his social media account. In his post, responding to Zafer Party Erzurum Provincial Chair Abdülhamit Uzun, Konakcı used expressions such as: 'Weasel, brat, Zionist puppet, one who makes sounds resembling intestinal noise from his mouth, vile provocateur, leashed puppet.'
