Köfteci Yusuf is entering a new sector!

Köfteci Yusuf, which made headlines in recent months over allegations that pork was used in one of its restaurant chain's branches, has invested in the energy sector under the name 'Köfteci Yusuf Wind Power Plant'.

It was stated that the region where the Köfteci Yusuf Wind Power Plant, consisting of two separate projects, will be established is located on the Northwest-South main bird migration route, specifically on the Istanbul-Çanakkale-Hatay section where stork and raptor migrations occur.

EIA PROCESS INITIATED

According to a report by Yusuf Yavuz from Sol Haber, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change announced on November 18 that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process has begun for the "Köfteci Yusuf Wind Power Plant" project, which is planned to be built by "Köfteci Yusuf Hazır Yemek Temizlik Canlı Hayvan Et Mamulleri Entegre Gıda İthalat İhracat San. ve Tic. A.Ş."

The wind power plant project, planned to be built in the Tosunalanı locality of Asmalıdere neighborhood in the Susurluk district of Balıkesir, will consist of a total of 3 turbines. The electricity produced will be sold to Balıkesir.

REGION WHERE THE WIND POWER PLANT WILL BE ESTABLISHED IS ON A BIRD MIGRATION ROUTE

In the Project Introduction File (PDT) prepared for the Köfteci Yusuf wind power plant and submitted to the Ministry, it was noted that the project site was determined to be on a bird migration route in studies conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

In the Project Introduction File, which also includes expert opinion, it is stated: “Field work was carried out within the scope of preparing the ornithological monitoring report for the Autumn 2023 bird migration period for the project area. According to the results of these observation, examination, and evaluation studies, 42 bird species were identified in the research area and its immediate vicinity. The vast majority of the identified species, 81 percent, consist of passerines (Passeriformes). Species that fly by soaring, such as diurnal raptors and water birds with large wingspans or storks, were encountered at a very low rate of 19 percent.”

However, the expert report stated, "it is seen that there is no issue with the distances that would allow birds to pass safely between the turbines without colliding."
