Kürşad Zorlu begins work: Nevruz to become an official holiday

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had announced at the March 21 Nevruz Day Commemoration Program that Nevruz would be declared an official holiday. Following this statement, the AKP is preparing to take action for the necessary legal regulations on the matter.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the work will begin after the Ramadan Feast.

GOAL OF A COMMON HOLIDAY FOR THE TURKIC WORLD

According to information obtained from AKP sources, the goal is for Nevruz to be celebrated not only in Turkey but as a common holiday across the Turkic World. A legislative amendment will be brought to the agenda to grant official status to Nevruz in Turkey, which is already an official holiday in countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan.

KÜRŞAD ZORLU TO LEAD THE EFFORTS

It has been learned that this process will be managed by AKP Deputy Chairman responsible for Relations with Turkic States, Kürşad Zorlu. Zorlu joined the AKP from the IYI Party in recent months and has taken on a significant role in matters related to the Turkic World.

Dr. Ayyüce Türkeş Taş, IYI Party Head of Turkic World and Overseas Organization, drew attention to the fact that this development coincides with the Imralı process. Stating that Nevruz represents the Turks' emergence from Ergenekon, Türkeş said:

“It is the Turkish Ergenekon Holiday. It is already proof that we are a nation. We are all the Turkish nation. It is our common value... We celebrate the same holiday together. Terrorist PKK members try to claim this holiday for themselves and create such separatism. It is impossible to understand with what intention the government is doing this. But unfortunately, we do not look for good intentions behind it. Because only negative and strange things have been happening in our country lately.''

''I do not understand what the importance of Nevruz being an official holiday is. There are already enough holidays in Turkey. There are official holidays. This is already a spring festival. It is celebrated. It will continue to be celebrated. It is impossible to understand why this is being brought to the forefront like this. This is sowing unnecessary discord in society. The path they are taking is wrong. This was also tried in 2015. We paid very heavy prices. I hope we turn back from these paths without paying a price."
