Major windfall for Köfteci Yusuf from AKP following pork controversy: Sharp reaction from CHP
The CHP has reacted to the shipment of 40 tons of meat to Köfteci Yusuf. Erhan Adem stated that the government is now supporting the company it previously targeted and called for transparency.
'Foods with Imitation or Adulteration' list, which became the subject of controversy after it was stated that its products contained pork, has purchased 40 tons of meat at an affordable price from the Meat and Milk Board (ESK), which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
REACTION FROM CHP WAS NOT DELAYED
CHP Deputy Chairman Erhan Adem reacted to the fact that this opportunity was not offered to any other company.
While the 'Foods with Imitation or Adulteration' list published in the first week of October occupied the public agenda in Turkey for a long time, the most discussed business on the list was Köfteci Yusuf, which has restaurant chains in many cities across Turkey.
PORK WAS FOUND
While the ministry ignited a weeks-long debate by announcing that pork was found in the meat doner sold at the company's branch in Bursa, a major sale was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to the business, which was allegedly targeted by the government at the beginning.
40 TONS OF MEAT SOLD AT AFFORDABLE PRICE
While millions of citizens are unable to access red meat due to high inflation in Turkey, the Meat and Milk Board, which sells to chain markets so that citizens can consume more affordable meat, sold 2 trucks (approximately 40 tons) of meat to Köfteci Yusuf.
CONTRARY TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
This situation, which is contrary to standard practice, caused debates on social media because the opportunity was mobilized for Köfteci Yusuf without being offered to any other business, and a reaction to the sale also came from the Republican People's Party (CHP).
CHP Deputy Chairman Erhan Adem stated that this practice is contrary to the principle of 'equal opportunity' and claimed that the sale was carried out secretly to avoid disclosure.
'YOU DISCREDITED THEM YESTERDAY, YOU ARE TRYING TO REVIVE THEM TODAY'
Stating that the shipment to Köfteci Yusuf was carried out through 'back doors', Adem said, "What is the effort to hide from whom by conducting the sales transactions indirectly from Sakarya to Bursa? If you cannot manage the public's resources fairly, whose interests are you running this institution for?”
Calling for transparency from the Meat and Milk Board, which operates under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Adem said, “But the Ministry of Agriculture thinks of neither the producer, nor the tradesman, nor the consumer. You are trying to revive a company today that you discredited yesterday. You have nothing left to give to this nation's farmers, tradesmen, and people.”
