The Ministry of Interior announced that Mersin Akdeniz District Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız has been removed from office due to accusations including "spreading terrorist organization propaganda" and "membership in an armed terrorist organization." District Governor Zeyit Şener has been appointed as the acting mayor in place of Sarıyıldız.

WHY WAS HOŞYAR SARIYILDIZ REMOVED FROM OFFICE?

Sarıyıldız was referred to court on the following charges:

Spreading terrorist organization propaganda

Membership in an armed terrorist organization

Opposition to the Law on the Prevention of Financing of Terrorism

Opposition to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911

OFFICIAL STATEMENT RELEASED

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, the following remarks were presented for public attention:

“Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız has been removed from office within the framework of the constitution and relevant laws, and Akdeniz District Governor Zeyit Şener has been assigned as the acting mayor. The purpose of the decision is to ensure that public services continue in an environment of trust and peace.”

This development at the Akdeniz Municipality has reshaped the management structure of the municipality. While the judicial process regarding Hoşyar Sarıyıldız continues, it was stated that Zeyit Şener, who was appointed in his place, will serve to ensure the continuity of sustainable services in the municipality.

WHO IS ZEYİT ŞENER?

Born in 1975 in Akseki, Antalya, District Governor Zeyit Şener draws attention with his career in public administration. A graduate of Gazi University's Department of International Relations, Şener has served as a district governor in various provinces and received language training abroad. Şener has been serving as the Akdeniz District Governor since 2022.

EDUCATION LIFE

Born in 1975 in Kuyucak Village of Antalya's Akseki district, Zeyit Şener completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. Graduating from Antalya Yavuz Selim High School in 1992, Şener completed his undergraduate education at the Gazi University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations, between 1993 and 1997.

Following his graduation, Şener began his career as a civil servant at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Turkey in 1998, and stepped into the role of a civil administrator as an Aksaray District Governor Candidate on June 1, 2000.

DISTRICT GOVERNORSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Throughout his career, Zeyit Şener has undertaken district governorship duties in various provinces.

He served as acting district governor in the Ulaş district of Sivas and the Alkışla district of Kayseri.

He held the positions of District Governor in Dikmen (Sinop), Demirözü (Bayburt), Aşkale (Erzurum), Serinhisar (Denizli), Gölmarmara (Manisa), and Güngören (Istanbul).

During this period, he participated in academic and professional development programs such as the National Security Academy Training and language training at the University of Sheffield in England.

Appointed as the Akdeniz District Governor by the Presidential Appointment Decree published on August 12, 2022, Şener began his duty on August 26, 2022.

Zeyit Şener is fluent in English. Married and a father of two, Şener draws attention with his experience in public administration and his successes in the regions where he has served.
