Mehmet Cengiz now turns to fertilizer: Record price hikes in 5 years

CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer criticized Cengiz Holding for achieving a monopoly position in the fertilizer sector.

Drawing attention to the astronomical increases in the price of DAP fertilizer, which is one of the basic needs of farmers, Gürer emphasized that the price per ton of fertilizer, which was 2 thousand 140 liras in 2020, has risen to 25 thousand 750 liras today.

Referring to the boycott call made by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for products with exorbitant prices, Gürer said, "The farmer has no chance to boycott. The President should call on the business people close to him to lower prices. It is Cengiz Holding's Eti Gübre that is creating the exorbitant prices."

''MONOPOLISTIC APPROACH IS FORCING FARMERS''

Stating that three major companies are influential in the sector, Gürer said, "In addition to Cengiz Holding, which is a monopoly in DAP fertilizer, Yıldızlar Entegre Holding and Gübretaş also play a role in price increases. The President should summon these companies and hold them accountable," he said.

''SUPPORT FOR FARMERS IS INSUFFICIENT''

Expressing that there have been serious price increases in urea fertilizer as well as DAP fertilizer, Gürer said, "Urea fertilizer, which was 12 thousand 600 liras per ton at the beginning of 2024, has now reached 17 thousand 500 liras.

The support per farmer is only 1 thousand 805 TL. This support is not enough in the face of rising costs."
