Ministry reveals fraud in olive oil! Seed oil added to unlabeled products

The latest adulteration list announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has revealed the fraud committed in many unlabeled food products sold in the market. The most notable among these products was olive oil. It was determined that vegetable seed oils were mixed into olive oils, especially those sold as "natural" or "organic."

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry continues to publish its list of 'Foods That Endanger Health' and 'Foods Subject to Imitation and Adulteration' on its website. Users can select time periods and product groups on the site.

One of the most striking headings on the Ministry's list is olive oils. It is observed that vegetable seeds have been mixed into most of the olive oils sold as 'natural' or 'organic'.

According to the report by Gıda Bülteni, the adulteration list dated March 6, 2025, reveals that fraud has been committed in a large number of unlabeled products.

Olive oils top the list of unlabeled food products where fraud was detected.

SOLD AT THE MARKET

According to the list, market vendor Zeynel Ali Filiz added other seed oils, such as safflower, cottonseed, or sunflower oil, to the “unlabeled” product he sold as ‘Natural First-Grade Olive Oil’.

Similarly, Yaşar Oraklı, who sold oil at an Akçay market stall as ‘Natural First-Grade Olive Oil’, also mixed different seed oils into the unlabeled product.

Muammer Boğazköy, who sells products at the Altınoluk market, also added different seed oils to the product he sold as ‘Natural First-Grade Olive Oil’. Ömer Taşdelen, who sells products at the Akçay Marina Bazaar, also sold mixed oil to the public as ‘Natural First-Grade Olive Oil’. The list published by the Ministry includes 8 olive oils originating from Edremit, and all 8 of these olive oils are unlabeled products.
