Ministry shares latest update on baby gorilla, social media erupts: ‘News from the little one…’

On December 22, Customs Enforcement teams from the Ministry of Trade rescued an endangered baby gorilla from smugglers at Istanbul Airport, which was being sent from Nigeria to Bangkok.

The teams handed over the baby gorilla, determined to be 5 months old and an endangered species, to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Photos of the baby gorilla found inside a crate became a trending topic on social media.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry made a statement regarding the current condition of the baby gorilla. In the statement made on the Ministry's social media account under the title "News from the little one," footage of the baby gorilla was included.

'REHABILITATION PROCESS CONTINUES'

In the shared video, a staff member from the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks was seen hugging the gorilla.

The Ministry added the following note to the post:

"The rehabilitation process for the baby gorilla is continuing under the care of our General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks teams. Our priority is the health of the 5-month-old male cub and creating a safe environment for him so that he does not experience the same situation again. We will continue to protect wildlife, especially endangered species, and fight against illegal animal trafficking."
