Moment of explosion at factory in Balıkesir caught on camera

Security camera footage has emerged of the moment an explosion occurred at an ammunition factory in the Karesi district of Balıkesir, which resulted in the deaths of 11 employees and left 7 others injured.

The moment of the explosion, which took place on December 24 at the factory operating near the rural Kavaklı neighborhood, was recorded by a security camera belonging to a nearby farm.

In the security camera recordings from the farm, located 600 meters away from the ammunition factory, flames can be seen rising into the sky due to the intensity of the explosion that occurred on Tuesday, December 24, at 08:27.

In the footage, the fireball and smoke that emerged following the explosion reveal the sheer force of the blast.

Farm worker Ramazan Akkoyun stated that he was at home during the explosion, saying, "It was a very violent explosion; the windows shook. I looked toward the factory. When I went out to the balcony, I told my wife, 'The factory is burning.' Then, when people gathered, we understood the situation."

WHAT HAPPENED?

On December 24, an explosion and subsequent collapse occurred in the capsule production section of an ammunition factory in the Karesi district of Balıkesir, where explosives were manufactured, resulting in 11 deaths and 7 injuries. The funerals for 10 of those who lost their lives were held yesterday. As part of the investigation launched following the incident, 10 people were taken into custody.
