The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced that it is seeking a name for an endangered baby gorilla, which was discovered being brought into the country illegally at Istanbul Airport, using the hashtag "MyOpinionOnTheName" (#Benceİsmi). Some users reacted to the Ministry's post.
The endangered baby gorilla, which was discovered to have been brought in illegally at Istanbul Airport on December 22, was rescued by the Ministry of Trade's Customs Enforcement teams and handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The photograph of the baby gorilla, determined to be 5 months old, inside a crate had become a trending topic on social media.
A name is being sought for the baby gorilla, which has been taken under the protection of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The ministry launched a name suggestion campaign via its social media account.
In the post, citizens were asked to provide name suggestions using the hashtag "Benceİsmi". Name suggestions such as "fişek" (firecracker), "mahzun" (sad/forlorn), and "garip" (strange/lonely) came from users under the post.
In a statement made from the Ministry of Trade's social media account regarding the name suggestion for the baby gorilla, the expression "Since we think we have a share in the name, KİM, the short name of our Smuggling Intelligence Directorate, is our suggestion" was used.
