Narin Güran murder: New development following additional testimony from confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar!

The investigation into the murder of Narin Güran, who was reported missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found 19 days later, is ongoing.

The murder remains unsolved in the case where 12 people have been arrested. Many allegations have surfaced in the public eye regarding the killing of 8-year-old Narin.

It had been alleged that there was a relationship between the uncle, Salim Güran, and Narin's mother, Yüksel Güran, and that Narin was killed after witnessing this relationship.

Nevzat Bahtiyar, a detainee who became a confessor after Narin's lifeless body was found, confirmed this claim in his final statement yesterday and alleged that it was uncle Salim Güran who killed Narin.

In his statement, Nevzat Bahtiyar said that when he saw Narin's lifeless body in the house, he saw foam-like saliva coming from her mouth as she lay on the floor.

Bahtiyar, who stated that he took Narin's lifeless body to his own home, explained that he first left the body inside through the barn window and then took the body with his vehicle to the stream.

Following this statement by Bahtiyar, the Gendarmerie Crime Scene Investigation and JASAT teams went to Tavşantepe Neighborhood, where Narin was murdered.

According to a report by Özgür Cebe from Sözcü, teams conducted an examination of the barn window, the barn itself, and the interior of the house mentioned by Nevzat Bahtiyar. It was learned that the teams collected samples and specimens to conduct DNA analysis.

Speaking on Sözcü TV, Özgür Cebe shared the new information he obtained regarding the investigation as follows:

“Teams collected various DNA samples, including saliva, drool, fingernail scrapings, blood, and hair, which are considered to potentially belong to the uncle Salim Güran, the mother Yüksel Güran, and the confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar, from Nevzat Bahtiyar’s barn and home.

After the samples were secured, the gendarmerie teams left the village.”

WHAT DID NEVZAT BAHTİYAR SAY IN HIS SUPPLEMENTARY STATEMENT?

Confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar stated the following in his supplementary statement given yesterday (September 21):

"I described some events differently due to the heat of the moment and Salim's threats. I want to clarify this.

On August 21, the day the girl was strangled, I called Salim Güran at 15:08 regarding a water issue. Salim called me over to him by shouting from the hill where his brother Arif's house is located. Together with Salim, we entered Arif's house. The doors of all rooms were closed except for one.

I did not see anyone inside the house, including mother Yüksel, Enes, Eren, and Muhammed Güran. I did not hear any sounds, so I do not know if they were in the rooms or not.

When Salim took me to one of the rooms on the left, I saw Narin lying motionless on the floor. As far as I remember, there was a foam-like liquid in Narin's mouth.

Salim told me, ‘I killed this girl because she saw that I was with Yüksel. Now you are my accomplice too. Since you witnessed this incident, you will dispose of this body. Otherwise, I will have your son taken from the football school he attends and have him shot in the head. Get rid of this, and afterwards, I will give you 200 thousand liras.’

Then, Salim and I placed the body into the blanket together. After Salim handed me the body, I left the house with it.”

"NARIN'S MOTHER CRIED AFTER US"

The confessor, Bahtiyar, continued his statement as follows:

"Narin's slippers were in front of the door. Upon Salim's instruction, I took them as well, put them inside the blanket, and then headed toward my house to leave them in my vehicle. First, I placed the body through the window into my barn. Then, I hurriedly pulled a sack from the barn over the head of the body. However, I did not tie the sack. Afterward, I placed the body on the floor mat of the back seat of my own vehicle. I gave the blanket to Salim, who was following me in his vehicle."

Salim left the blanket in his own vehicle. He told me, ‘Dismember the body if necessary, then throw it into the Eğertutmaz stream.’ At that moment, when I looked upwards, towards Arif Güran’s house, I saw Narin’s mother, Yüksel, holding her face in her hands and looking on while crying.

I took the body to the Eğertutmaz stream and left it at the spot where I had previously performed the site reconstruction. I also placed a large stone on top of it so it would not attract attention."

"SALIM HANDED THE BODY OVER TO ME, I LEFT IT IN THE CREEK"

Nevzat Bahtiyar described how he left the body in the creek as follows:

"One of Narin's feet was left outside the sack. Because I did it in a hurry and in a panic, I could not tie it and could not fix it. Then I left the scene. I did not meet with Salim face-to-face or speak with him by phone after the incident.

When we encountered each other on the road a few days later, he greeted me by gesturing with his eyebrows and eyes. I do not know if Salim saw the place where I left the body. However, the Eğertutmaz creek is clearly visible from the high points of the village."

Therefore, Salim may have followed me from behind and seen where I left the body. The incident happened exactly like this. However, I definitely did not kill Narin. I only left her in the Eğertutmaz stream because Salim handed the body over to me.

PRECAUTIONS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS IN PRISON

On the other hand, it was learned that the members of the Güran family, who are not permitted to see one another in prison, are being held in special rooms equipped with cameras and that even family members on the outside are not allowed to visit them.

SOME INDIVIDUALS MAY TESTIFY AS SECRET WITNESSES

It has been learned that some individuals, including both suspects and those whose information is being sought, may testify as secret witnesses within the scope of the investigation. It has also emerged that the Ministry of Interior has sent a three-person expert delegation tasked with the witness protection program to Diyarbakır regarding this matter.

THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MEET IN SPECIAL CAMERA-MONITORED ROOMS

Twelve people, all of whom are family members and relatives except for Nevzat Bahtiyar, are being held in special camera-monitored rooms at the T2 and T3 High-Security Closed Penal Institutions and are not permitted to meet with each other in any way until the investigation is completed.

It was also learned that during visiting days, relatives and family members outside are not permitted to meet with the detainees in the prison as visitors. Due to the possibility that they might alter their testimonies to obscure evidence if they were to come together, family members have been placed in special high-security rooms within the prison. It was learned that the correctional officers entering and exiting these rooms for headcounts and meal services are selected from a designated permanent staff, and that all of them are equipped with body cameras capable of audio recording during their shifts to prevent any potential contact or exchange of information with the family members inside. It was stated that all connections of the family members, both with each other and with the outside world, have been severed.

MINISTRY ASSIGNS SPECIAL 3-PERSON TEAM

A specialized 3-person team has arrived in Diyarbakır from Ankara following reports that two individuals—who had previously provided statements as family members and witnesses in the village—will now have their testimonies taken as protected witnesses. This decision was made because they possess direct, eyewitness information crucial to uncovering the mystery behind the murder, which necessitates measures for their personal safety within the investigation file.

It has been determined that a team of experts assigned by the Ministry of Interior to the witness protection program is working to place two individuals under protection as secret witnesses. After holding meetings both at the prison where 12 people are currently detained and with the prosecutors conducting the investigation at the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the experts have returned to Ankara.
