Narin Güran murder: Striking statements from confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar's lawyer

In the case regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who was made to appear as if she had gone missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, the detained uncle Salim, mother Yüksel, and brother Enes Güran, along with their neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, are being tried for "intentional killing of a child in complicity," facing life imprisonment with aggravated circumstances.

Ahead of the second hearing on December 26, new footage and reports regarding the case continue to emerge.

Former Diyarbakır Bar Association President Attorney Nahit Eren had announced that hair and fiber samples found in Narin's palm and on her black shorts were determined to be compatible with the mitochondrial DNA base sequence of Narin, her mother Yüksel, and her brother Enes Güran.

Confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar's lawyer, Ali Eryılmaz, made striking statements on the program "Neler Oluyor Hayatta" (What's Happening in Life).

Lawyer Ali Eryılmaz shared the result of the mitochondrial DNA analysis for the first time on the "Neler Oluyor Hayatta" program. It turned out that the DNA detected in those hair and fiber samples belonged to someone from Narin's maternal lineage. According to Eryılmaz, this new evidence, which points to mother Yüksel Güran or brother Enes Güran, also includes the aunt, Hediye Güran, among the suspects. This is because aunt Hediye Güran is not only the wife of Narin's uncle but also the daughter of mother Yüksel Güran's maternal uncle.

WHY DID NEVZAT BAHTİYAR GIVE CONTRADICTORY STATEMENTS?

Regarding the contradictory statements of Nevzat Bahtiyar, who hid Narin's lifeless body in the stream bed, Lawyer Eryılmaz said:

“He said he gave his first statement because he did not feel safe, neither for himself nor his family. But then he started telling the truth. I believe his final statement is the correct one. His final statement is also consistent with the HTS records. We will stand by this final statement at the hearing on December 26.”

“THE GÜRAN FAMILY IS VERY POWERFUL”

Arguing that Nevzat Bahtiyar is a calm and introverted person, lawyer Eryılmaz claimed that the Güran family, being a powerful one, pinned the murder on Bahtiyar, and that uncle Salim Güran threatened Nevzat Bahtiyar with a gun to force him to hide Narin's body.

“HE ADMITS HIS CRIME AND IS VERY REMORSEFUL”

Eryılmaz continued his statement on the live broadcast: “Nevzat Bahtiyar admits his crime and is very remorseful. He even says, ‘I wish Salim had shot me instead, so I wouldn't have done it.’”

“WE REQUESTED AN EXAMINATION OF ENES GÜRAN’S BITE MARKS, BUT IT WAS REJECTED”

Ali Eryılmaz stated that they requested an examination of both those photographs and Enes Güran's bite marks, but the court rejected this request on the grounds that it would not add new evidence to the file.

“Nevzat Bahtiyar said he heard a woman's voice in the background during his phone conversation with Salim Güran regarding a water outage.”

“NO CONFESSION WILL COME FROM ANYONE”

When asked what he would use as evidence in the second hearing on December 26, Eryılmaz argued that every new piece of evidence shows that Nevzat Bahtiyar was not involved in this murder from the start; that he was included later, and that it points to the real killers. Eryılmaz said, "No confession will come from anyone regarding this murder.”
