New development in the Newborn Gang case: Objection filed
A new development has occurred in the Newborn Gang case following the prosecutor's objection to the decision to try three defendants without arrest.
In the trial of 47 defendants in Istanbul, known as the 'Newborn Gang,' who are accused of transferring newborn emergency patients to neonatal units of private hospitals they had pre-arranged with, causing their deaths, and obtaining illicit gains, the public prosecutor has appealed the decision to try Mustafa Kazan, Assistant Operations Manager of Bağcılar Şafak Hospital, nurse Renginar Molla, and medical secretary Sümeyye Özdemir without arrest.
During the hearing held on December 3 at the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court, the public prosecutor had requested arrest warrants for Ali Aksu, owner of Birinci International Hospital; Dr. Ali Dirik, responsible manager of Esenler Güney Hospital; Dr. Şeyhmus Çelik; Dr. Mehmet Gürül at TRG Hospitalist Hospital; Murat Mantuş, General Manager of TRG Hospitalist Hospital; nurse Ceren Hatice Kırım; nurse Serenay Şenkalaycı; Mustafa Kazan, Assistant Operations Manager of Bağcılar Şafak Hospital; nurse Renginar Molla; and medical secretary Sümeyye Özdemir.
In the hearing on December 4, the court panel ordered the arrest of defendants Gürül, Mantuş, and Çelik, who were being tried without arrest. Additionally, the court issued arrest warrants for defendants Aksu, Dirik, Şenkalaycı, and Kırım, while ruling that Kazan, Molla, and Özdemir would continue to be tried without arrest.
The public prosecutor applied to a higher court to appeal the decision to try Kazan, Molla, and Özdemir without arrest.
