New earthquake warning from Şener Üşümezsoy: He pointed to those regions!
Speaking after the 6.2 magnitude Istanbul earthquake that occurred on April 23, Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy argued that this earthquake was the last major one for the Marmara region. Stating that the expectation of a major earthquake in Istanbul is incorrect, Üşümezsoy issued warnings for new earthquake zones.
Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, statements from earthquake experts continue to dominate the agenda. Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy, who previously predicted the magnitude of this earthquake and also identified the Silivri earthquake, made statements.
Speaking on a television program he attended, Üşümezsoy stated that a major earthquake is not expected in the Marmara region, asserting that this latest earthquake was the "last major earthquake."
Opposing the claims of some experts that there has not been a major earthquake in the Marmara region since 1766, Üşümezsoy said, "First they said it would be magnitude 8, then they lowered it to 7. The argument that a major earthquake occurs every 250 years is wrong. A 350-kilometer fault line is required for a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. However, there is no such fault line extending to the east."
"THEY ARE SHOWING A MISLEADING FAULT"
Making significant claims regarding the fault lines in the region, Üşümezsoy specifically drew attention to the area between Büyükçekmece and Yeşilköy.
Üşümezsoy stated, "There is a ridge like Avcılar. They were showing a misleading fault line over this ridge, but no such fault exists. There is only a 30-kilometer risky fault line between Kumburgaz and Büyükçekmece. This region broke with the last earthquake, and the stress was released."
"EARTHQUAKE INDICATOR ON THE ADALAR FAULT IS ZERO"
Üşümezsoy also expressed that he does not see a serious risk on the fault lines in other parts of Istanbul. He used the expressions, "The earthquake indicator on the Adalar fault is zero. In terms of the Marmara Sea, this was the last major earthquake. No other earthquake danger remains."
NEW WARNINGS: EYES ON ANATOLIA
Rejecting the expectation of a major earthquake in Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy stated that attention should be turned to other regions. In his new warnings, he said, "Attention should be paid to the İzmir Karaburun-Kütahya line and the Tokat/Kazova region. Seismic activity may occur in these areas in the coming period."
