Once a major topic of discussion: Mavi Marmara ship put up for sale by execution

The Mavi Marmara ship, which became a global focal point after being attacked by Israeli commandos in May 2010 while departing from Antalya to deliver aid to Gaza, has now been put up for sale by foreclosure.

The Comoros-flagged ship, known as "Anatolia," will be offered for sale at the port where it is docked in the Ünye district of Ordu. The estimated value of the ship to be sold by foreclosure has been set at 47 million 500 thousand Turkish Lira.

The first auction will be held on April 6, followed by the second auction on May 15.

IT WAS A SYMBOL OF AN ERA

Construction of the Mavi Marmara began in Istanbul in 1989, and it was commissioned by the Turkish Maritime Organization in 1994. Initially used for voyages to Avşa Island, the ship was transferred to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İDO) in 2005.

10 PEOPLE HAD LOST THEIR LIVES

Following the tragic event in 2010, the ship was sold to the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and was used to carry aid to Gaza as part of the "Our Route is Palestine, Our Load is Humanitarian Aid" campaign. However, on May 27, 2010, it was attacked by Israel in international waters, resulting in the loss of 10 lives.

After the incident, the ship was towed to Israel's Ashdod Port and remained in memory under the name "Mavi Marmara." In 2019, the ship was registered under the Comoros flag, and in a 2021 auction, it was sold to a company and converted into a Ro-Ro cargo ship through extensive renovations.

Anatolia is currently a ship 93 meters long, 15.80 meters wide, and with a capacity of 1,080 people, having been anchored in Turkey's ports for years.
