Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu resigned from the CHP on August 14 and transferred to the AKP.

Following this transfer, which remained on the agenda for a long time, a striking claim has been made regarding Çerçioğlu.

It is alleged that Çerçioğlu recently filed complaints against both Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat and AKP Aydın Provincial Chair Mehmet Erdem for various reasons.

COMPLAINED ABOUT THE GOVERNOR FOR “NOT VISITING”

According to a report by Aydınpost, Çerçioğlu went to Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and filed a complaint against Governor Yakup Canbolat. The reasons cited were “failure to provide necessary security at Metropolitan Municipality Council meetings” and “not having visited her yet.”

However, according to talk in the political corridors, Çerçioğlu’s real grievance was different. It is alleged that although Governor Canbolat did not visit her, the fact that he received Kuşadası Mayor and CHP Aydın Metropolitan Council Group Chair Ömer Günel—whom Çerçioğlu views as a political rival—in his office increased tensions.

According to another claim circulating in the corridors, Çerçioğlu has had problems not only with the governor but also with her party’s Aydın Provincial Chair, Mehmet Erdem. It is alleged that Çerçioğlu complained about Erdem to the AKP Headquarters and requested a change, seeking a name with whom she could “work more compatibly.”
