Passenger bus overturns in Kars: 23 people injured

The passenger bus with license plate 36 AAS 084, driven by Ramazan İnanpolat, went off the road and overturned onto snow-covered terrain near Oluklu village in the Selim district on the Kars-Erzurum highway.

Due to the accident, in which 23 people on the bus were injured, numerous medical, search and rescue, fire, police, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.

The injured were transported by ambulance to Kars Harakani State Hospital and Kafkas University Health Research and Application Hospital.

Kars Governor Ziya Polat visited the injured at Harakani State Hospital and conveyed his "get well soon" wishes.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR

Governor Polat stated that the bus, which had set off from İzmir, lost control and rolled into the ditch in the Oluklu area of the Selim district.

Polat said, "There were 30 passengers on board. Thank God we have no fatalities. 23 of them have been transported. According to the latest information reported to us, we have 15 yellow-coded and 8 green-coded patients. This means we have no critically injured individuals. I wish everyone a speedy recovery again."

Explaining that winter conditions have been present in Kars for two days, Polat stated, "Our teams are working intensely and selflessly day and night. We kindly ask everyone to comply with the measures taken by our teams. We once again convey our get-well wishes to our fellow citizens injured in the accident."

Driver İnanpolat also stated that while they were proceeding in their lane, another vehicle overtook them, saying, "The vehicle overtook us and slowed down. We could not stop in the middle lane. While trying not to hit it, the slushy snow pulled the vehicle, and it threw us into the ditch."

Snowfall is intermittently affecting the region.
