SERIOUS WARNING FROM SWEDEN

According to the notification published in the European Commission's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), aflatoxin was found in pistachios sent from Turkey at levels far exceeding the maximum permitted value.

Swedish authorities announced that they had seized the product using the "serious" risk code in notification number 734683.

According to RASFF data, the maximum permitted amount of Aflatoxin B1 in a product is stated as 8 µg/kg - ppb.

In the pistachios sent to Sweden, this value was measured at 56.0 ± 18 µg/kg - ppb. Experts emphasize that Aflatoxin B1 is both a toxic and carcinogenic substance, and also carries the risk of altering genetic structure.
