Public transport fare hike in Istanbul to be finalized today: How much will it be?
The rate of the planned hike for public transport fares in Istanbul is being finalized today. With the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (İBB) proposal for a 50 percent increase, the single-ride fare is expected to rise to 31 TL, and the price of a 180-ride monthly pass is expected to reach 2 thousand 433 TL. The new tariffs will be effective starting January 13, 2025.
The long-awaited UKOME meeting for the public transport fare tariff that will be effective in Istanbul in the new year is being held. The meeting, which was previously planned for December 26 but was postponed, will evaluate the 55 percent hike proposal submitted by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
HOW MUCH IS THE AKBIL MONTHLY PASS FEE IN 2025?
According to the proposal submitted by the İBB to the sub-committees, the full fare for public transport could rise from 20 TL to 31 TL. Furthermore, if the hike rate is reflected in the monthly pass prices, the 180-ride monthly pass fee will reach 2,433 TL. This increase could create a budget-straining effect for millions of Istanbul residents who use public transport.
Keeping the hike rates at the 30 percent level is also among the possibilities before the UKOME meeting. If this rate is accepted, the single-ride fare with Istanbulkart will be 26 TL. In this case, the price of the 180-ride monthly pass will rise to approximately 2,070 TL.
HOW MUCH WAS THE HIKE IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT?
The public transport fare tariff in Istanbul was last increased in August 2024. The decision to implement a new hike will be a significant development that will affect city residents, especially during a period when economic conditions are challenging.
WHEN WILL THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT HIKE IN ISTANBUL BE EFFECTIVE?
Following the decisions to be made at the UKOME meeting, the new public transport fare tariff will begin to be applied as of January 13, 2025.
Therefore, the hike rates and new prices are being closely followed by Istanbul residents.
