Santorini benefits vacationers: Holiday prices drop as migration from the island continues

Intense seismic activity in the Aegean Sea has led to a major wave of migration on the Greek islands. Santorini and Amorgos, in particular, have been among the regions most affected by the series of earthquakes in recent days.

12,000 TREMORS IN 12 DAYS

A total of 12,000 earthquakes have been recorded in and around Santorini in the last 12 days. The constant tremors have caused great panic among the local population, and it has been announced that schools will be closed until at least February 14.

RESIDENTS FLEE, HOLIDAY PRICES DROP

While the number of people leaving the island due to the earthquakes is increasing every day, it has been observed that prices in the emptying hotels have fallen rapidly.

It was stated that nightly accommodation rates for reservations made for Santorini on travel websites have dropped to as low as 9,000 liras, with breakfast included in the price.

UNDERGROUND RUMBLINGS CAUSE ALARM

The few people remaining on the island stated that they are in great anxiety due to the constant tremors and the rumblings coming from underground.

Residents expressed that they do not know when the earthquakes will end and that they are concerned about their safety.

SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Greek scientists have intensified their efforts to investigate whether there is a link between the volcanic activity in the Santorini Caldera region and the earthquakes being experienced.

It was announced that two new underwater seismographs will be placed on the seabed as part of the research conducted under the leadership of Evi Nomikou, a Professor of Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

LAST MAJOR EARTHQUAKE WAS MAGNITUDE 5.0

While seismic activity in the Aegean Sea continues, the last major earthquake occurred on Sunday at 21:00. The 5.0-magnitude tremor was recorded 21 kilometers off the coast of the town of Arkesini in Amorgos at a depth of 226 kilometers.
