Scandal at KYK dormitory: Female students' belongings looted, condoms left in their rooms
Students returning to the KYK Cevizlibağ Atatürk Girls' Dormitory in Istanbul after the summer break have alleged that their suitcases were rummaged through and their belongings stolen. Citing an unsupervised renovation process, the students stated that they have received no response to the complaints they filed with the administration.
Students who left their rooms at the KYK Cevizlibağ Atatürk Girls' Dormitory in Istanbul during the summer break were met with a major shock upon their return. Many students claimed that their suitcases had been opened, their contents rummaged through, and some items had gone missing entirely. The students stated that they had reported the situation to the dormitory administration via written petitions but had received no feedback.
UNSUPERVISED RENOVATIONS DRAW CRITICISM
Speaking to T24, the students argued that the renovations ongoing at the dormitory throughout the summer were carried out without control and that the disappearance of their belongings was a result of this. While photos shared in WhatsApp groups highlighted the scattered state of the suitcases, some students reported that their belongings were found in other rooms, while others were never found at all.
One student said she found razor blades, liquor bottles, and cigarette butts in her room. Another expressed her grievances by saying, "Even the suitcases containing my clothes and underwear were rummaged through and stolen from."
SHOCKING ALLEGATIONS
Allegations shared on social media further escalated the scale of the incident. One student claimed that a condom had been thrown into her room and that hearts had been drawn on her underwear.
Another student summarized her experience as follows:
"We were told we could leave our belongings at the dormitory over the summer. However, we were met with a different picture this year. Our suitcases were completely opened, their contents rummaged through, and even looted. We believe the workers staying at the dormitory for the renovations are responsible for this situation. There is neither hygiene nor security. They are still wandering around the dormitory, which is why we feel unsafe."
SECURITY VULNERABILITY
Stating that the card-entry system had been deactivated, the students alleged that "anyone who wants to can enter and exit the rooms." One student said, "My memory box was opened, and some of my belongings inside were stolen. They took memories I had been collecting for about 10 years. Why would you do this?"
Another student described what happened by saying, "Almost none of the belongings I left at the dormitory were in their place. Even my pots and pans were gone. The items we left under our beds were also scattered about. Even the underwear inside my suitcase had gone missing."
SILENCE FROM DORMITORY ADMINISTRATION
The students stated that despite all their complaints, no statement has been made by the dormitory administration. It was learned that the dormitory administration has left questions regarding the scandal unanswered.
