Scandalous lottery at Ebrar Site: Apartment for the contractor, 300 rightful owners left homeless

The Ebrar Sitesi in Kahramanmaraş, one of the locations that suffered the highest loss of life in Turkey's greatest earthquake disaster, was the scene of a major tragedy where 1,400 people lost their lives following the collapse of its 18 blocks.

Following the removal of the debris, the housing construction initiated by TOKİ lasted two years, and the lottery for the completed new homes was held in recent days.

However, the lottery, which was moved up without notifying the rightful owners, and the results of the draw revealed a major scandal.

300 RIGHTFUL OWNERS LEFT HOMELESS

As a result of the draw, an apartment was given to the contractor Tevfik Tepebaşı, who built the collapsed buildings of Ebrar Sitesi and is being tried for murder, and his family.

In contrast, no housing was allocated to approximately 300 rightful owners. Reacting sharply to this situation, CHP Deputy Chairman Erhan Adem said, "It is a major scandal that while people are left homeless, housing is given to the responsible contractor, his brother-in-law, and his son-in-law."

''THIS IS A BETRAYAL''

Adem stated that the housing lottery was moved from February 6 to February 3 without informing the rightful owners and that the draw was conducted using a fishbowl system, and reacted with the following words:

"It is the year 2025; while a transparent lottery could be held with modern technology, the names were determined in a fishbowl. Moreover, it is not even known where the rightful owners whose names were not drawn will be given homes. What has been done is a clear betrayal and injustice."
